Detection of improvised explosive devices: armasuisse takes part in a European Defence Agency project
Improvised explosive devices are set to be able to be detected quicker and more reliably in the future. The Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse is taking part in a European Defence Agency (EDA) research project on this topic. The Deputy Chief of Armament Thomas Rothacher signed the agreement to participate in the “Improvised Explosive Device Detection – Phase II” (IEDDET II) project on 16 July 2024.
armasuisse holds round table on the topic of drones
On July 9, 2024 the Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse held a round table on the topic «Drones» with representatives from industry and the DDPS. In the near future, it is planned for Switzerland to be able to deploy a large number of different types of drones in order to respond to threats and increase the defence capability of the Armed Forces.
Chief of Armament signs application for membership with regard to accession to the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI)
The Federal Council wants to join the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) and thus increase opportunities for international cooperation in ground-based air defence. Following the decision of the Federal Council, Chief of Armament Urs Loher now signed an application for membership addressed to the Chairperson of the ESSI on 8 July 2024. All member states of ESSI can now express themselves on the application, after which Switzerland can sign the statement of accession.
